The Gallery
aboriginal
art collection
aims to promote and support Australian Indigenous artists
to enable non-Indigenous people to embrace this rich culture
and to engender increased knowledge of and respect for Australia’s
unique heritage.
aboriginal
art collection
offers works from both emerging and established Aboriginal
artists, illustrating the diverse range of indigenous art
in Australia.
Each Aboriginal painting depicts an individual interpretation
of events from the artist's Dreaming (tjukurrpa or jukurrpa).
Paintings from the Central and Western Desert communities
represent stories from one of many cycles that concern travelling,
mythical ancestral beings and the country that is laced by
their path. The value of the Dreaming emanates from the conception
that the world as it now exists is a result of these beings.
Persons, customs, geographical features are all believed to
have originated in the Dreaming. For more information about
a particular painting's story, please
contact us.
