THANK YOU

To all our guests who attended the launching of our Aboriginal Art Gallery at the GENESIS exhibition on July 20, 2007, a sincere thank you. We had an enjoyable evening sharing with you our passion for Australia’s Indigenous people and their enduring culture.

The exhibit turned into quite the party where, true to form, the Aussies were the last left standing. Our subtle hints of last call for drinks failed to encourage them to leave and so eventually we had to just turn off the lights to shepherd everyone out. What a night!

Photos of the exhibition can now be viewed on our website. Go to Past Exhibitions, at the Events page and follow the link to the GENESIS exhibition photos. You may even spot yourself enjoying a glass of wine or the pleasure of another’s company.

SAVE THE DATE!

Our next exhibition, TRIBAL VOICES, will be held late October/early November. Please contact us at info@aboriginalartcollection.com if you wish to receive an invitation to the opening night. We will be keeping the exhibition open for at least a week this time to give those that cannot make it to the opening the chance to view the exhibition at another time.

Christopher Poulson
Christopher Poulson was the feature artist for our Genesis exhibition who once again arrests us with his striking interpretation of the Pikilyi Jukurrpa.

Dorothy Napangardi
Dorothy Napangardi has developed her own unique visual language and is widely regarded as one of the Australia’s leading contemporary Aboriginal artists. She has been painting since 1987 and has won several major prizes including the 18th National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award in 2001. In 2002 Napangardi’s work was honoured with a major survey exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.

WHAT'S HAPPING IN THE ABORIGINAL ART?

The Aboriginal art market has been described by Tim Klingender, a leading expert on the subject at Sotheby’s, to be not so much booming as exploding following feverous auction activity in 2007.

An iconic painting by Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri more than doubled the previous record for Aboriginal art when it sold at a Sotheby’s July 24 auction for over A$2.4 million.

At the Lawson-Menzies Aboriginal art auction this May, an indigenous painting by Emily Kame Kngwarreye was estimated to sell for between A$500,000 to $700,000 but actually sold for A$1.056 million, smashing all previous records in Indigenous art and cementing Emily as the first female Australian artist (Indigenous or non-Indigenous) to break the one million dollar mark.

With warm regards
Manuel and Rena Pulido
